The purpose of the course is to take a person with basic knowledge of math, physical science and drafting skills and teach them to be productive basic sprinkler layout and detailing technicians. All of the work elements necessary for NICET Level II Certification will be covered by the course including sprinkler selection, sprinkler spacing and location, obstructions to sprinklers, water supplies (public mains, tanks and pumps), hydraulic calculation of sprinkler systems, and standpipe system layout and calculation.

Mark Hopkins, P.E. – is Vice President of Engineering for the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA). Mark has both a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park. Mark is a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). He currently serves as a member of the NFPA 13 Sprinkler System Discharge Committee, Hanging and Bracing Committee, and Correlation Committee. He has previously served as a member on the NFPA 25 Inspection, Testing and Maintenance Committee and the NFPA 13 Installation Committee and Residential Committee (responsible for NFPA 13D and 13R).
Roland Asp, C.E.T. - is the Manager of Technical Services for the NFSA. He is certified by NICET as a Level III in the Water-Based System Layout program. He serves as a member of the NFPA Committees on Sprinkler System Installation Criteria and Private Fire Service Mains.
Bob Upson, M.S.F.P.E. - is the Manager of Installation Standards for the NFSA. After a 30 year career as a firefighter, Bob went back to school to earn his Masters in Fire Protection Engineering at WPI in Worcester, MA.
Jeffrey M. Hugo, CBO - is the Manager of Codes for the NFSA. He represents the fire sprinkler industry in the development of the International Code Council family of codes. He also represents NFSA on several NFPA technical committees including NFPA 101 and NFPA 5000. He also assists the NFSA.
