The purpose of the course is to take a person with basic knowledge of math, physical science and drafting skills and teach them to be productive basic sprinkler layout and detailing technicians. All of the work elements necessary for NICET Level II Certification will be covered by the course including sprinkler selection, sprinkler spacing and location, obstructions to sprinklers, water supplies (public mains, tanks and pumps), hydraulic calculation of sprinkler systems, and standpipe system layout and calculation.

Mark Hopkins, P.E. – is Vice President of Engineering for the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA). Mark has both a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park. Mark is a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). He currently serves as a member of the NFPA 13 Sprinkler System Discharge Committee, Hanging and Bracing Committee, and Correlation Committee. He has previously served as a member on the NFPA 25 Inspection, Testing and Maintenance Committee and the NFPA 13 Installation Committee and Residential Committee (responsible for NFPA 13D and 13R).
Roland Asp, C.E.T. - is the Manager of Installation Standards for the NFSA. He is certified by NICET as a Level III in the Water-Based System Layout program. He serves as a member of the NFPA Committees on Sprinkler System Installation Criteria and Private Fire Service Mains.
Kevin Hall, P.E. - is the Manager of Engineering Research for the National Fire Sprinkler Association. Kevin has both a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering and a Master of Engineering Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park. Kevin is a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

- All Seminar Schedules are subject to change depending on instructor availability.
- Homework will be assigned each night and each day will begin with a review of the previous night’s homework.
- Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and should conclude by 5:00 p.m. each day, except for the 10th day, which should end by noon.
- Students must make their own hotel reservations.
- The fee includes breakfast, lunch, and all seminar course materials, including a copy of NFPA 13 (2016 edition), a copy of the NFSA textbook, "Layout, Detail & Calculation of Fire Sprinkler Systems", a calculator and a workbook of exercises and useful handouts. Each paid attendee will receive a certificate upon completion. The fee must be paid in full and in advance using a check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express. The cost of lodging is NOT included in the seminar registration fees.
